Meherrin River Trail Ride—SAVE THE DATE!!!! Gate opens Friday Noon. Ride—same format as last time. Filling Station will cater that fantastic Grub--Come hungry. Ride Theme: "The Hoof & Woof." It should be very, very clear that dogs will be on these trails always. If you can't ride with dogs on the trail, don't come to this ride. A dog-rider costume show is planned....Google "dog riders" to see what this is. THIS IS A WORKING FARM & A WILDLIFE RESERVE FOR THE SEVERN HUNT CLUB. DEER, TURKEYS, VERY POTENT SKUNKS, COYOTES, DOG-SIZED RACOONS & LOST DEER DOGS are on this trail ride. BEAR poop has even been seen. SO HERE IS YOUR WARNING ABOUT THAT. Again, if you have a probelm with these potential incounters, then this ride IS NOT for you. DIRECTIONS: From Raleigh head East on US 64. Take I-95 North to Rocky Mount. From Rocky Mount, take Hwy 158 East at Roanoke Rapids towards Conway. At Conway go north on Hwy 35 to Severn, NC. From the EAST: Take 158 to Conway.

Ride with Pride Benefit Trail Ride in Augusta Springs, VA. Weekend campers & day riders are welcome. ONLY ONE RIDE THIS YEAR--THERE WILL BE NO RIDE IN SEPTEMBER! Different trails each day: short apx. 5 miles; medium apx. 10 miles; long apx. 15-20 miles. Trails well marked & you may ride at your own pace. Riders can leave trailhead at 8:30 am & no riders out after 11:30 am. Riding is on George Washington National Forest trails & roads on beautiful Great North Mountain. All animals should be recently shod; in condition & fit for several hours riding on hilly terrain. Horses should be able to cross water & other natural trail obstacles. Management is not responsible for unshod horses & expects all riders & horses to obey trail rules. Ride & lunch will be held rain or shine. Toilet facilities, water for horses & lunch are provided. Primitive camping.

First Annual Friends to Freedom Trail—A NC Heritage Based Wagon Train/trail ride recounting the early American Quaker exodus from Perquimans County, NC which began around 1812. Two days of riding: 12 miles first day & 17 miles second day includes parade through Historic downtown Hertford. MOST OF THIS IS ROAD RIDING on very low traffic rural roads. A few miles of dirt paths on the second day. Inc: Primitive camping, two meals, nightly entertainment, historical reenactors, games & shuttle service to bring support vehicles to next campsite. Wagon route departs Fri. morning from historic Newbold-White house in Hertford via Beech Springs to Belvidere campsite; then departs Belvidere Sat. morning for Winfall where there will be a parade across the "s" bridge through downtown Hertford & then back to historic Newbold-White house. Section of New River Trail Closed
for Renovations


A section of New River Trail State Park will be closed from Mile Post 39.8 (Fries Junction) to Mile Post 42.3 (Gambetta Road) starting November 18, 2009 until approximately May 1, 2010. This section is on the southern branch of the park and about 7 miles north of the Cliff View Horse Camp. Recent safety assessments completed on the trail is allowing the park to proactively renovate and restore the tunnel located on the Galax branch of the trail.
