Get Well Wishes for Barb
PPWHANC Board of Directors and all its members would like to take this opportunity to ask everyone to be in prayer for Barb Curtis, PPWHANC Treasurer, and long-time member. Barb was taken to Rex Hospital on Saturday, June 26th for what was thought to be gall bladder problems -- as it turns out her appendicitis had ruptured and she had a grapefruit size cyst on her ovary. The two surgeries went well; however, she developed pneumonia as a result of throwing up while under anesthesia. She has been in ICU since June 26th and remains there with a ventilator breathing for her at times at 65% and up to 80% at one time. Her blood count dropped so low that she had to receive a blood transfusion and developed a fever of 103 during the weekend of July 4th. She cannot have visitors in ICU except Jeff and her Mom but I think that cards are accepted.

Cards can be sent to Barb c/o Rex Hospital ICU, 4420 Lake Boone Trail, Raleigh, NC 27607.

Everyone please remember to keep Barb, Jeff and her family in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this difficult time.

NEWS FROM SHIRLEY REGARDING JERRY'S CONDITION

I had promised to update you and here is the latest.  As you know, Jerry had another bone marrow biopsy done last week.  We meet today with doctors and the treatments did not reduce the amount of cancer.  They are taking this next week to research some options and side effects, etc. to see what is available and, hopefully, have a game plan for next Thursday with some kind of different chemo, etc to try.  We are, of course, disappointed, but at least, it has not really gotten worse over the past 6 months.  I thought e-mailing everyone would help me not have to go over so much and I am trying really hard to keep Jerry positive as much as possible. Thank you to all of you for your continued support for us and we value your friendships deeply.

EMAIL RECEIVED JUNE 14, 2010

Hello, all friends of Truby,

For those of you that don't know me, my husband, Danny, and I are long-time friends of Truby.

Patricia Spence, his niece, just called a short while ago to let me know Truby is BACK at Rex Hospital and his condition is not good. This will be the third time he has been in the hospital with pneumonia within a few months.

At the moment Patricia is there with him, as well as Martha. I mentioned to her that just last night I had seen the note Susan Stallings sent several days ago about Club news and Truby. Danny and I knew about Truby as we had been making regular visits to Sunrise, and had been to see him at Rex Rehab. In fact, on our visit to Rex Rehab, he looked the best we had seen him look in quite some time and was doing his usual joking around.  However, Danny stopped by Sunrise the other day just after Truby had gotten back and said Truby didn't seem to be doing too well . . . was not quite "with it."  I was really surprised, as he had REALLY looked so much better when we last visited him at Rex Rehab.

Patricia asked that I try to get the word out for her, so I 'm sending this to the e-mail address shown for Club news, ... as well as to other friends of Truby that would want to  know. Unfortunately, the news does not sound good.

While I'm e-mailing . . . to Cathy Raver on the loss of her mare Jenna and to Shirley Cates on her loss of Double, you have my sincere sympathy.  Very sad when you lose your "horse friend and pal."

Also, I wish the best for Jerry and his family and hope he gets better soon.

Sue Hooe,
Cary, NC

P.S. - Truby and I have been "horse friends" since I was 13 years old . . . a long, long time ago!

NEWS FROM TRUBY HAMILTON'S NIECE PATRICIA

Sorry I have been so out of touch. Just got back to Denver last night with my Dad. It was a hairy landing and I think my Dad may be taking the train/bus, etc. back)

Truby had two really good days right before I left (mentally and physically). He is still bed-bound and is loving his chocolate Ensure!!  Hospice is coming in (doctor, nurse, aides, volunteer, chaplain). I think he enjoys the extra attention. It is possible that his condition could improve such that he would graduate Hospice in three months. However, the possibility of getting pneumonia again is high (especially lying in bed all the time) and that would not be a good thing. I strongly considered nursing home care but it seems that Sunrise with Hospice care is working well for him at this time. The people are being very nice to him (at least when I'm there and hopefully all the time).

I'm wondering if anyone knows anyone who would like to have his organ and piano. They have sat unused too long and need a good home (free for the moving). He offered them to someone months ago but they were never picked up. I think we are needlessly paying high energy bills to try to protect them. The piano sounds great to me (untrained ear). I know he said the organ needs work but I don't know what or how much that would be.  If you have any ideas, please let me know.

Hope you all are well! Thank you again for caring for Truby. He loves you all!!!!

Feel free to forward this to anyone whom you think might want an update.
